Springbank: The Most Traditional Distillery
Springbank in Campbeltown is unique for maintaining virtually all traditional production methods on-site.
The 2.5× Distillation Explained
Springbank's signature process:
- **Wash Still:** All liquid distilled (as normal)
- **Intermediate Still:** 80% of low wines redistilled
- **Spirit Still:** Final distillation of combined spirit
This creates a spirit heavier than triple-distilled (Hazelburn) but lighter than double-distilled (Longrow).
### Why 2.5×?
- **More copper contact** than double distillation = cleaner spirit
- **Less copper contact** than triple = more character retained
- Results in balanced, complex spirit with maritime funk
On-Site Production (100%)
Springbank is the only Scottish distillery doing EVERYTHING on-site:
### Malting - Traditional floor malting - Peat and unpeated malt produced in-house - Complete control over peat levels
### Maturation - Own warehouses (dunnage and racked) - All maturation in Campbeltown
### Bottling - Own bottling hall - No chill-filtering - Natural color (no E150a)
Three Distinct Brands
From the same distillery: 1. **Springbank:** 2.5× distilled, lightly peated (12-15 PPM) 2. **Longrow:** Double-distilled, heavily peated (50 PPM) 3. **Hazelburn:** Triple-distilled, unpeated
