The Highland region is Scotland's largest whisky-producing area, stretching from the Central Belt north to the tip of Scotland (excluding Speyside). Due to its vast size, Highland whiskies display remarkable diversity, from coastal drams to inland malts. The terrain varies from mountains to coastline, each influencing the local distillery character.
“Diverse range reflecting the region's geography. Eastern Highlands tend toward fruity, slightly smoky malts. Northern Highlands often show heathery, spicy notes. Western Highlands can be more maritime with saline elements. Central Highlands typically produce lighter, honeyed malts. Generally more body than Speyside, with hints of dried fruit, nuts, and subtle smoke.”
