Ingredients

["50ml single malt Scotch whisky"
"25ml sweet vermouth"
"2 dashes Angostura bitters"]

Method

1Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir for approximately 30 seconds until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube.

Brandied maraschino cherry or lemon twist

About This Cocktail

The Manhattan was reportedly invented in the 1870s at the Manhattan Club in New York City for a banquet hosted by Lady Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill's mother. While this origin story is debated, the cocktail quickly became a classic and helped establish the template for spirit-forward stirred cocktails served up.
